A Night to Remember
--- The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering gathered its new graduates - Class of 2011 - to celebrate their 4-year university life
EEE Class of 2011 rejoiced together for their Graduates’ Evening on 29th of July 2011, at the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. With the theme of “Lollipop Festa”, the celebration was held in a light-hearted yet exciting atmosphere. As anticipated, participants arrived starting 6.30 pm, dressed colourfully and nattily like “lollipops”. Lined up for the evening were not only delicious food and attractive lucky draws, but also remarkable performances, including solo-songs, Latin dances and many more.
Apart from the graduates, the event was also attended by the EEE professors and the Guest of Honour was Professor Er Meng Hwa, Vice President (International Affairs) of NTU. This graced the event with camaraderie between students and faculties. Thus, it is indeed a night to remember for the latest graduated cohort of EEE.
Colourful memories that will never pass away…
The Graduates’ Evening 2011 commenced with a greeting of “我会想念你!” (i.e. “I will miss you” in English). The emcee for the evening, Daniel Ong, urged everyone to repeat this aloud to the friends around them. This brought all audience thinking back about their years in NTU and created a night of reminiscences.
A video was presented then, summarizing all aspects of the colourful school lives, starting from the bond forged at freshmen orientation camp to the vibrant curriculum, activities and overseas exchange programmes. Participants laughed out loud when the lecture video clip for Analog Electronics, by Professor Siek Liter, appeared. The interesting words used to warm-up the lecture reminded all graduates of the stressful yet joyful studying moments.
A game named “NTU You Know It All?” was conducted to test participants’ familiarity and recollection about NTU. There were ten pictures of randomly selected locations in NTU, and every table is required to compete with each other to make the right guess where those places were. It seemed that most participants could get the right answers fast, making the competition fun and intense. Participants were excited at the lucky draw - more than 20 attractive prizes were presented, including laptop, iPad2, iTouch4, and so on.
Well done, Comrades!
To highlights the achievements of graduates from the Class of 2011, the EEE Excellence Award was presented to 8 outstanding graduates who excel in both academic and extra-curricular performances. The recipients were Chew Kean Lim, Kenry, Lee Wan Ping, Li Bo, Lim Yee Siang, Reinaldo Wijaya, Sheng Yunzhou and Zhang Shuyan.
Lecturers and tutors played a significant role in the students’ daily life. The School of EEE also recognized their effort by giving out the Teaching Excellence Awards. This year, the Year 3 Award went to Associate Professor Tan Soon Yim, and both Year 2 and Year 4 Awards went to Associate Professor Siek Liter. Year 4 Award winner was specially voted by the Class of 2011, out of 3 other nominees, namely Associate Professors Guan Yong Liang, Chua Chin Seng and Tan Hee Beng Kuan.
Let’s Yum Seng!
The long-awaited “Lollipop King” and “Candy Queen” selection finally arrived as the finale. Excited participants rushed to the stage to cast their supporting vote on their friends by handing them big lollipops. They are too exuberant to wait for the result and swam to surround the candidates for photos, hugs and cheers. Finally, the candidates with most lollipops were crowned the “Lollipop King” and “Candy Queen”.
The evening came to a concluding end within a jocund ambience. Everyone stood up and give a toast to a bright future ahead. What reverberated through the ballroom were gaiety, laughter and the sound of “Yum……Seng!” Indeed, it was a successful closure for the event for more than 470 participants, the highest number of participants compared to EEE Graduates’ Evenings of past years.
